The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services recently published their final rule for Medicare Advantage plans for 2023. One of the new initiatives reflected in these rules is an effort to increase equity and access to affordable care, an effort that begins with the collection of social risk factors.

“The Biden-Harris Administration has remained committed to ensuring equity in health care for all,” said CMS Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure. “This rule improves the health care experience and affordability for millions of people with MA and Part D coverage, including dually eligible individuals, and provides needed support to populations often left behind.”

Specifically, CMS wants to address Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) by requiring standardized SDoH data to be required during encounters such as home risk assessments, specifically those in special needs plans (SNPs).

Biomedix already features the to digitally collect SDoH data through a standardized digital assessment. Assessments can be self-administered, or administered by a provider or assistant. Data is then automatically synced to a cloud-based analytics platform, enabling the centralization of data to individualize care planning to address social needs.
