A study recently published in the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association examined the combined utility of a timed vibration test (TVT) combined with monofilament, and compared the effectiveness of using these technologies separately to predict diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) accurately.

The study involved 200 patients, 24 which developed a diabetic foot ulcer. The 5.07 Semmes-Weinstein monofilament, when used with the O’Brien ETF128 for TVT testing, with a 4 second cutoff, were more accurate than each test individually.
